Commercial and Retail Activity
The Port currently leases space to 34 businesses and manages a 9,300-square-foot commercial center near the Boardwalk. The center holds retail businesses that feature everything from ice cream and seafood to artwork and gifts to shoes and socks.
A number of other businesses are located around the Port, including a marina shop located near the recreational boat launch, a recreational and commercial tackle business located near the commercial basin, and a chandlery for boat gear.
There are two retail seafood businesses at the Port. Both offer fresh fish and specialty products including canned specialty salmon and albacore tuna.
The Port has current demand for additional rental space on port property. The spaces requested are commercial/professional in nature rather than retail. To fulfill this demand, the port is constructing Phase II of its commercial/retail a new commercial center.
The proposed facility will be a two-story structure located adjacent to Lower Harbor Road. Its character will distinguish it from the recently constructed retail facility, but the design will be harmonious with the Port environment.
The two-story building includes approximately 13,000 square feet of leasable space and 3,140 square feet of circulation, and restroom areas. The floor areas can be divided into as many as 19 different suites. A central elevator tower will provide access to the second floor. The suites will be individually metered to allow each tenant control of their own energy consumption and expenses.
